This pig. like thousands of others, found its way to higher ground on a levee after the flood, but it was far from safe.
See a gallery of the rescue operations in Iowa by Farm Sanctuary.
We have been asked by Farm Sanctuary
to help with the rescue of 10 young pigs from the Iowa floods
. The pigs will arrive as soon as we can get a special barn built to give them a safe and secure home. We still need help building fences and preparing for the pig's arrival. If you can car pool, drive yourself and bring extra helping hands, your help would be greatly appreciated. We should have everything you need, but you might want to bring gloves and heavy duty shoes. We hope we see you this Saturday.
The overflowing Mississippi has caused a catastrophe for humans and animals alike. In the words of Iowa governor Chet Culver, "Since the severe weather which began on May 25th, Iowans have been tested. We have faced the worst natural disaster in our history. This '500 year flood' displaced 40,000 Iowans and disrupted the lives of so many of our fellow citizens." The photograph was originally posted on URLFAN.com
