Summer 2009 newsletter
by Lynda Amaral

In her book The Inner World of Farm Animals, Amy Hatkoff presents many ways to view farm animals, all of which promote respect for different species. She evokes a strong desire to spend time with these creatures. Each one has a name and a story.
Call me silly (or perhaps crazy) but I envision sitting around the dining room table next Thanksgiving with these sheep, goats, geese, ducks, cows, and pigs, having a delightful conversation over a delicious vegetarian meal.
I invite you to meet some of the farm animals Amy introduces us to. I guarantee you will want to join us next November to celebrate Gentle Thanksgiving at the Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary.
Hatkoff has many good resources listed in the back of her book along with a list of farm sanctuaries and the Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary is on that list.
The forward is by Jane Goodall and the afterword is by Wayne Pacelle, President of the Humane Society of the United States.
This book is fun and enjoyable to read. The Sanctuary has obtained a number of these books, signed by the author. They are for sale. If you are interested in purchasing one, please contact us.
