As 2024 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we’ve made at Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary this year, and share some of the most inspiring stories that have shaped our work. Thanks to your generous support, we’ve been able to make a lasting impact on the lives of animals in need. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights:

Max and Rocco: From the Lab to Freedom

This year, we were honored to rescue two pigs, Max and Rocco, who spent over a year confined to isolated cages in a research lab, enduring painful and unnecessary testing. Since arriving at the sanctuary, these two resilient pigs have experienced the joys of freedom for the first time—tasting fresh strawberries and apples, making new friends, and discovering what it means to live life on their own terms. Max and Rocco are learning to navigate their world with the ability to make choices, and every day, we see them blossom into the happy, free pigs they were always meant to be.

The Heatwave Piglets: A Fight for Survival

In a truly heartbreaking rescue, we saved a group of tiny piglets, just hours old, abandoned in a field during an unforgiving heatwave. Dehydrated and sunburnt, they needed immediate care to survive. It took us nearly two months to nurse them back to health, providing the medical treatment and care they so desperately needed. While our sanctuary was unable to take on six farm pigs, we’re thrilled to share that, thanks to our partnership with Pigs Peace and Misspits Rescue in Washington, these sweet piglets have found their forever home. Together, we ensured they would grow up in a safe, loving environment, free from harm.

Youth Crew Initiative: Building a Better Future

This year, we also launched our Youth Crew Initiative, and we couldn’t be prouder of the incredible work our young volunteers have done. The crew put in over 1000 hours, building a new barn for Max and Rocco, constructing birdhouses, and completing countless other important projects around the sanctuary. The dedication and hard work of these young people remind us that the future of animal advocacy is in good hands. We’re so proud of each and every one of them and know they have bright futures ahead.

As we look toward 2025, we are filled with gratitude for the progress we’ve made together, but there is still much work to be done. Your continued support ensures that every animal we rescue receives the care they deserve.

Thank you for being a vital part of the Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary family. We are so grateful for your kindness and compassion, and we look forward to all that we can accomplish together in the year ahead.
