Uma was rescued from a local breeder who had a heart-wrenching practice of “renting” piglets to people and then accepting them back for slaughter once they had gotten big enough. Many people who had grown to love these pigs found it inconceivable to part with them, and Uma was one such fortunate soul. Our hearts ache when we think about what might have befallen our dear Uma if we hadn’t intervened. Uma has earned the endearing nickname “Nurse Pig” for her innate love and care for other animals. She is deeply concerned about the well-being of her friends, embodying the nurturing spirit that defines her. Uma is also an adventurer and fiercely independent. She takes delight in grazing on fresh grass, hunting for acorns in the fall, and finding solace in the warmth of her friends’ company at night.
