Shelter Facilities Lead - Part time

Job Description: The Shelter Facilities Lead position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our volunteer program, including recruitment of new volunteers, training, and management of all volunteers. This position will also be responsible for working together onsite with volunteers focusing primarily on feeding and watering animals, barn and grounds cleaning , grounds keeping and assisting with farm maintenance projects, and basic animal care not limited to daily health checks and implementing treatment plans. Position will report to Shelter Director and Executive Director. 

Responsibilities

  • Source and recruit volunteers through various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.)
  • Collect information on availabilities and skills
  • Train all new volunteers
  • Coordinate teams of volunteers for large-scale actions
  • Create and manage a volunteer appreciation program
  • Keep detailed records of volunteers’ information and assignments
  • Cover for volunteers in the event of absence 
  • Work with volunteers to provide animal enclosure cleaning, animal feeding and watering, facilities maintenance (such as mowing, weeding, gardening, compost movement) and assisting with animal health care and health checks

Skills

  • Experience in volunteer coordination
  • Previous farm or work experience at an animal-care facility
  • Farm animal handling experience and skills (large and/or small animal)
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse people
  • Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
  • A pleasant, outgoing personality
  • Must be able to communicate with others in a respectful and productive manner
  • Able to follow direction and complete all tasks as assigned
  • Meet physical requirements
  • Clean Driver’s License and be insurable
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout facilities.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting (up to 60 lbs regularly; team-lift heavier amounts regularly)
  • Must be able to bend, lift, push, stoop, stretch, climb, and crawl and other strenuous activities to maintain equipment and buildings
  • Must be able to regularly perform work in a variety of weather conditions; almost all work is done in outdoor setting that is not climate controlled

Specifications:

  • Part-time, non-exempt position
  • $20 per hour
  • Work schedule is 4 five hour shifts per week (Wednesday-Saturday 11:30  am to 4:30 pm); however, candidates must have flexibility to work any day of the week; 
  • Occasional travel may be required to assist with transport to vet and rescues
